Hi. I'm Tandy Harrison. I'm an experienced early years teacher, specialising in teaching children with special needs. I'm also a parent of two children who have learning disabilities.
I offer support, advice and training for people working with children with special educational needs.
In September 2012 I will be presenting a workshop on using Intensive Interaction with children who have autism at the organisation Treating Autism's annual conference.
Specialist techniques are important but not enough.
My combined experiences as a parent and a special needs educator give me a broad perspective, and a passionate belief that all children can take bigger strides in their development if we create the right conditions for them to do so.
Often children with special needs fail to engage or make progress, despite a modified curriculum, specific activities or resources, because we are not taking their interests, motivations or feelings into account.
I will show you how to place a child's interests at the heart of anything you want to teach and create a learning experience that's effective and fun for them.
